- Creating a distinct look based on "Chinese art - beauty in emptiness". Simplicity in shots - focus on characters and the background sets that were created. Chinese landscapes and architecture and artwork - culture, in particular the classic Chinese palace and temple architecture. Clothing fits in with the style of the time setting as well; the Jade Palace.
- Outdoor locations influence by:
- Gold signifying the Emperor and red, for luck were important; the primary colours used in the film.
